The giant has gone to rest. Mike has been gigantic in his influence and the role he played in the hyperbaric academic world. He was a leader who led by example. He never shirked away from tackling difficult issues and never hesitated to call out bad practice and to criticize poor quality research. He encouraged and supported those who wanted to improve the academic standard of hyperbaric medicine. He will be sorely missed by all of us left behind. We will cherish his sparkling presence at our meetings and will remember him with great fondness. Our thoughts go out to his family who will miss him more than we do.
